About the Role:

Must be available to work on-site at Little Spoon’s Long Island City lab and/or our Manhattan office up to 5 days/week.

​​The Quality Specialist will support food safety and quality initiatives within our rapidly growing company. You will report to the Manager of Food Safety and Quality Systems. 

  • Coordinate, receive and retain samples for regular analysis.
  • Perform regular inspections on finished products to ensure conformance with established standards and specifications using visual inspection and sensory evaluation techniques. 
  • Maintain quality related documentation following good record keeping practices. 
  • Coordinate sample shipments to third party laboratories for testing per product testing frequencies.
  • Conduct review of certificates of analysis (COA) of incoming raw materials to ensure conformance with the specification. 
  • Perform product analysis using various instruments such as pH meters, water activity meters, colormeters, Brix, Bostwick. 
  • Assist in the coordination and set up of thermal chamber studies for the validation of cold chain shipping protocols. 
  • Place nonconforming products on hold and assist in the final disposition of the product including sensory evaluation, lab testing coordination and visual inspection. 
  • Investigate reports of product quality issues and ensure resolution in accordance with company guidelines and regulatory requirements. 
  • Assist in the consumer complaint investigation process. 
  • Conduct data entry into various company computer systems. 
  • Communicate issues identified through product inspections to various teams for resolution. 

Who You Are:

Our ideal candidate will check most of these boxes: 

  • 2-4 years of food quality experience with knowledge of quality assurance terminology, methods and tools. 
  • Superb computer skills, including database management
  • Effectively communicate, both written and verbally in English. 
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Possess interpersonal skills to interface professionally with internal staff and external partners in person and in email.  
  • Display a sense of urgency when issues arise and communicate those issues in order to facilitate resolution of extreme issues.
  • Possess a strong attention to detail along with ability to follow instructions, processes and procedures.  
  • Possess the ability to work both independently and as part of a team, is essential.  
  • Be able to set priorities to meet deadlines, handle multiple tasks,
