Position Summary:

The Packaging Engineer will lead the design, development, and optimization of packaging across all Little Spoon product categories. This role will focus on innovative packaging design, cost efficiency, sustainability efforts and quality improvements. From conception to on-site testing and validation, the Packaging Engineer will be integral to ensuring Little Spoon’s products are delivered safely, sustainably, and beautifully.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and execute packaging solutions for Little Spoon’s new and existing product lines with an eye toward sustainability
  • Lead the end-to-end packaging process, from conception to on-site testing, lab analysis, and shelf-life validation.
  • Drive innovation in packaging design to support new product launches and improve our customer experience.
  • Develop and implement plastic reduction projects across all platforms.
  • Identify cost-effective and sustainable materials that can be used across all types of company packaging
  • Collaborate with external suppliers and internal stakeholders (procurement, operations, R&D and FSQA) to vet and source sustainable packaging options that meet Little Spoon’s needs.
  • Conduct continuous packaging improvement efforts to enhance our customer experience
  • Oversee temperature integrity testing that meets the needs of our direct-to-consumer business model fulfillment and shipping of seasonal and regional needs
  • Develop fulfillment packaging protocols to prevent breakage and ensure product integrity during delivery.
  • Identify opportunities for margin improvement, including optimizing material specifications and exploring cost-efficient alternatives.
  • Support procurement in qualifying new suppliers for cost improvement and supply chain security.
  • Work closely with R&D, production, and fulfillment teams to align packaging solutions with product goals and operational capabilities.
  • Provide technical leadership on packaging innovation and troubleshooting, ensuring smooth implementation across our manufacturing sites.
  • Collaborate R&D and marketing when selecting packaging solutions for new product lines and updating existing designs.
  • Create and maintain detailed packaging documentation, including technical specifications, SOPs, and test protocols.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for stakeholders on project progress, cost savings, and sustainability impact.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Packaging Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
  • 9+ years of experience in packaging development, preferably in food or consumer goods.
  • Knowledge of sustainable materials and eco-friendly packaging practices.
  • Proficiency with packaging software tools 
  • Strong analytical, communication, and project management skills.
  • Experience with direct-to-consumer fulfillment packaging design for perishable goods is a plus.
